General information

- Amateur photography for personal use is permitted throughout the Museum, apart from the Gallery of the Slopes of the Acropolis on the ground floor and the Archaic Gallery on the first floor, without the use of a flash or additional professional equipment (spotlights, tripod). Publication of photographs in print and electronic media is not allowed. Images for personal use can be found here.

- Professional photography (for commercial, advertising, touristic, research, educational and artistic purposes) is permitted upon written authorisation from the Museum. Read more about this below in PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY.

- The Museum has in its archives high resolution photographic material, which it provides for use and reproduction in printed and electronic publications and for any other professional use (research, educational, commercial, artistic, etc.). - The study of archaeological material in the exhibition areas or other areas of the Museum can only be undertaken after prior arrangement and scheduling. Read more about this below in STUDY OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL MATERIAL.

Professional photography

Professional photography (for commercial, advertising, touristic, research, educational and artistic purposes) is permitted only upon prior arrangement and written authorisation from the Museum.

- During the days and hours when the Museum is open to the public, professional photography is only permitted from specific areas outside the exhibition spaces, which are indicated by the Museum.

- Interested parties can complete the Application for Photography/Usage and send it to photoarchiveattheacropolismuseum [dot] gr (contact tel: +30 210 9000900 / int. 422) at least one month before the desired date of photography.

- For the safety of the exhibits, the use of special equipment (e.g. lights, flash, scaffolding, etc.) Is subject to approval by the Museum. During their visit, the parties concerned must comply with the safety regulations indicated by the Museum’s security staff.

- The Museum reserves the right to refuse the provision of a photography permit.

Provision and licensing of photographs from the Museum archive

The Museum has in its archives high resolution colour photographic material, which it provides for reproduction in printed and electronic publications and for any other professional use (research, educational, commercial, artistic, etc.).

- Interested parties can complete the Application for Photography/Usage and send it to photoarchiveattheacropolismuseum [dot] gr (contact tel: +30 210 9000900 / int. 422).

- In the case of approval of the request, the Museum provides the photographic material and a license for its non-exclusive use. The licence is solely for the purpose described in the application. Alteration of the images or their modification in any way, is not permitted without the approval of the Museum.

- The Museum retains copyright of the photographic material which it provides. The source of the material and the name of the photographer must be indicated, in accordance with international regulations (e.g. © Acropolis Museum, photo: [photographer's name]).

- The Museum retains copyright concerning the objects in its collections in accordance with applicable Greek and international legislation (Government Gazette A 120/06.21.2009). The provision of a licence for use is therefore also required from the Museum, even if the photographic material published comes from another source. The title "Acropolis Museum" must be included in each use.

- For the provision of photographic material and/or a license for its use, interested parties must pay prescribed fees in advance.

- The Museum reserves the right to refuse the provision or use of photographic material.

Study of archaeological material

The study of archaeological material in the exhibition areas of the Museum can only be undertaken after prior arrangement and scheduling. Study in the archaeological storage rooms of the Museum can only be undertaken during working days and hours, also after prior arrangement and scheduling.

- Interested parties may complete the Application for Study of Material and/or the Application for Photography/Usage and send it to photoarchiveattheacropolismuseum [dot] gr (contact tel: +30 210 9000900 / int. 422), at least one month before the desired date.

- Arrangements with the Museum for scheduling the date and time of access should be made at least three weeks earlier.

- The use of special equipment (e.g. cameras, measuring devices, portable lighting) requires the prior approval of the Museum.

- Following publication of the study the person concerned must submit a copy to the library of the Museum. If photographs were taken in the context of the study, he or she must submit copies to the Museum’s photographic archive.

Professional filming

Professional filming (for commercial, advertising, touristic, research, educational and artistic purposes) requires written permission from the Museum and advance payment of the prescribed fees.

- Interested parties can complete the Application for Filming and Use of Material and send it to photoarchiveattheacropolismuseum [dot] gr (contact tel: +30 210 9000900 / int. 422) at least two months before the desired date of filming.

- The application must be accompanied by a full description of content (script, narration, presenters/actors) the technical equipment to be used and any other details that contribute to an understanding of filming conditions. Vehicle registration numbers and the occupations and names of the people who will be involved in filming in Museum areas, must also be provided (completion of Application for the Provision of a Permit for Film Crew Access).
