The mint of Costantinople, a city in modern northwest Turkey, was founded in AD 326 after the transfer of the capital of the Roman Empire from Rome to Constantinople. It produced the main bulk of coins within the Byzantine empire until its fall in 1453 with a gap during the Frankish rule (AD 1204-1261).
