On 20 June 2019, we celebrated our ten-year anniversary at the Acropolis Museum. 10 Years Acropolis Museum | June 2009 - May 2019

10 years have passed quickly, but they have left a strong mark on this new beginning for the Acropolis Museum. In October 2007 the path to the Museum’s opening commenced, with the onset of the transportation of the masterpieces from the old Museum on the Rock to the galleries of the new Museum, shuttled through the air by three enormous cranes. It was only then that the waves of doubt about the location and the choice of architecture for the new Museum subsided. The transportation of the exhibits became an international event that drew great global interest. On 20 June 2009, the Museum opened to the public and after 10 years the number of visitors has reached over 14.500.000... Read more

With a consistency of commitment to its work, the Acropolis Museum continued its sixth year of operation. The Museum upgraded the presentation of its exhibits with technical improvements, added new exhibits, changed the mounting of sculptures and conserved well known masterpieces. In difficult times it is often considered that ‘culture’ and museums are a dispensable luxury. Our experience at the Acropolis Museum shows differently: visitors taking a brief respite from the daily grind and moved by their walk through the Museum galleries, young people enjoying the contemporary museum setting in which the unique exhibits are displayed and children kneeling on the Museum’s glass floors, nose to glass, drawn by the archaeological excavation below... June 2010 - May 2011

The Museum celebrates the close of its second year of operation at the same time as Greece faces a crisis of new proportions in its economic, political and social life. Despite this, between June 2010 and May 2011 more than one million and three hundred thousand Greek and foreign visitors passed through the Museum’s doors. However developments in the broader environment did not leave the Museum untouched and visitor numbers were reduced in relation to the first year of operation. On the other hand, the Museum began to establish real friends, visitors that come frequently, and are developing a close relationship with the Museum and its exhibits... Read more
