THE MUSEUM ABROAD

 

The exhibits of the Acropolis Museum often travel in other parts of Greece and the rest of the world. Their presence in temporary exhibitions organized by the Museum or other bodies contributes in the promotion of values and ideas of Greek culture and its artistic and social achievements. Furthermore it contributes in creating relations of mutual understanding, dialogue and collaboration between different people.

The Acropolis Museum participated in the exhibition “Nautilus: Navigating Greece”, with four of its artefacts: the bronze figurine of Athena Promachos, EAM X 6454; the relief sculpture depicting the state trireme Paralos, Acr. 1339; the “Boy with a Dolphin” figurine from the decoration of a bronze vessel, EAM X 6626; and the bronze lamp in the form of a warship, ΕΑΜ X 7038.

The Acropolis Museum participated in the exhibition “Pyrrhus Leader King”, with a bust of Alexander the Great, Acr. 1331.

Athens, Tae Kwon Do Stadium in Paleo Faliro

The Acropolis Museum participated in the International Contemporary Art Fair, “Art Athina” with a presentation of high quality copies of original exhibits. The copies are made in the Museum’s workshops and some of them retain traces of color that survived in the original artefacts. In some instances –where the research allows it- copies with a complete colour restoration are presented.

Marseille, France, Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations

The Acropolis Museum participated in an exhibition – organized by the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (MuCEM) in Marseille, on the occasion of the inauguration of its new facilities – with an inscribed stele bearing an honorary decree, ΕΜ 6899.

The Acropolis Museum participated in the exhibition “Athens, Living History”, with copies of its important exhibits, photographic and other informative visual materials. The exhibition was organized by the Greek Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in the framework of the international exposition EXPO 2010.

New York, NY, USA, Wallach Art Gallery, Columbia University

The Acropolis Museum and Columbia University collaborated in presenting the exhibition “The Museum and Its Collections”, which included the display of 103 copies of important works from the collections of the Acropolis Museum, framed by rich photographic and other informative visual materials.
