Daughter of Electryon, king of Mycenae, mother of Herakles and wife of Amphitryon. During Amphitryon's absence in war, Zeus, who disguised himself as her husband, deceived her and seduced her. Soon enough, real Amphitryon returned and shared her bed. Thus, Alkmene gave birth to twins: Herakles, from her union with Zeus, and Iphicles, from her union with Amphitryon.
