Byzantine emperor from AD 668 until his death in AD 685. He fought successfully against the Arabs who besieged Constantinople for four years (AD 674-678) and thus prevented them from entering the European continent. In AD 681 he deposed his co-emperor brothers and remained the sole ruler until his death.
