Restoring the Acropolis Monuments

An educational website on the restoration interventions at the Acropolis monuments. This website focuses on the restoration interventions carried out on the monuments of the Acropolis. It is aimed at secondary school students, educators, and the general public, presenting the contemporary restoration work undertaken by the Acropolis Monuments Conservation Service in an interactive and engaging way.

Using a photogrammetric plan of the Acropolis Rock and a chronological timeline, users can explore both completed and ongoing restoration projects for each monument. The website has been developed by the Department of Information and Education of the Acropolis Restoration Service (YSMA) under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0.

In the specially designed sections “Restoration – What & How” and “At the Monument Worksites”, visitors are introduced, in a simple and visually clear manner, to the reasons why restoration interventions are necessary, the principles and methodologies that are followed, the types of work carried out, as well as the modern technologies employed in the process.

A dedicated section with educational material, developed by the Service, addresses the needs of the educational community. Its goal is to support both teachers in preparing and organizing lessons about the restoration projects on the Acropolis and students who wish to study the subject more in depth.

Finally, the website includes a special section with educational games, where children learn about the damage the monuments have faced over time and discover how professionals from various fields of restoration contribute to addressing these challenges.

The website has been developed by the Department of Information and Education of the Acropolis Restoration Service (YSMA) under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0.
