Amateur Photography/Filming


Amateur photography and filming for personal use is permitted in all areas of the Acropolis Museum – with the exception of the Archaic Acropolis Gallery on the first floor – without the use of flash and additional professional equipment (lights, tripod). The publication of photographs in either print or digital form is not allowed.

Provision of Photographic Material


The Museum’s Archives department  has a collection of high-resolution color photographs that can be provided for reproduction in printed and/or digital form, and can be used for every professional purpose (scientific, educational, commercial, artistic, etc).

Interested parties can complete the Application for Photographs – Use form and email it to: [email protected] (contact tel.: 210 900 0900 / ext. 423).

When an application is approved, the Museum will provide the requested photographic material, along with a license for its exclusive use. This license is valid only for the purposes described in the application. There can be no tampering or alteration of Museum images in any way without the prior permission of the Museum.

The Museum reserves the copyright for all photographic material provided. For every use of the Museum material, it is obligatory to credit the source, and the name of the photographer, in accordance with international regulations (e.g. "© Acropolis Museum, photo: [photographer's name]).

The Museum retains all copyrights related to the objects held in its collections, according to the applicable Greek and international legislation (Government Gazette A 120 / 21.06.2009). Therefore, a license is required from the Museum even if the published photographic material has been acquired from another source. For every use, it is mandatory to include the title "Acropolis Museum".

For provision of photographic material and/or a license for its use, interested parties will need to pay the Prescribed Fees in advance. 

The Museum reserves the right to refuse provision or use of photographic material.

Professional Photography


Professional photography for commercial, promotional, touristic, scientific, educational and artistic purposes is only allowed upon prior written consent from the Museum. Professional photography is allowed during regular days and hours of operation when the Museum is open to the public, limited to specific locations outside of exhibition spaces, as indicated by Museum staff.

Interested parties can complete the Application for Photographs – Use form and email it to: [email protected] (contact tel.: 210 900 0900 / ext. 423), at least one month prior to the desired shooting date.

For the safety of the exhibits, the use of special technical equipment (e.g. lighting, flash, scaffolding, etc) is subject to the approval of the Museum. During their visit, interested parties are required to comply with the security regulations specified by the Museum's security staff.

For professional photography, interested parties will need to pay the Prescribed Fees in advance. 

The Museum reserves the right to refuse provision of a photography license.

Professional Filming


Professional filming for commercial, promotional, touristic, scientific, educational and artistic purposes is only allowed upon prior written consent from the Museum, and with prepayment of the Prescribed Fees.

Interested parties can complete the Application for Filming and Use of Material form and email it to: [email protected] (contact tel.: 210 900 0900 / ext. 423), at least two months prior to the desired filming date.

The application must be accompanied by a full description of content (script, narration, list of actors/actresses and other contributors); technical equipment to be used; and any other details that facilitates the Museum’s understanding of desired filming conditions.

Also required are all vehicle registration numbers and the occupations and names of the people who will be involved in filming on the Museum’s premises. This information must be disclosed on the completed Application for Provision of a Permit for Film Crew Access form.

Fixed Fees


Professional photography and filming in the Acropolis Museum, the use of still photographs and video/cinematic material related to the Museum, as well as study of and access to the Museum’s archaeological material are all permitted strictly in accordance with certain terms and conditions.
