Bibliography

Head of a figurine, perhaps a Sphinx. It was found in 1969 in the vicinity of the Sanctuary of Apollo Hypoakraios on the north slope of the Acropolis.

Preserved is only the figure’s face which at the back is hollow. It is triangular in shape with a low forehead, slanting eyes, accentuated brows, big, long nose and narrow, half-open mouth. The chin is pointy and the figure may have had a v-shaped beard. The face surface is covered in yellowish slip and the facial features are painted brown-red.
