The Acropolis Museum selects exhibits and organizes narrations for adults and children about fire in everyday life, myth, religion and philosophy. Narrations will last four days (11-14 October 2012), from which the first two will be dedicated to children while the others for adults.

Admission to the Museum will be free on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The second horse of the Hekatompedon sculptures acquired part of its chest. The wrist of the Kore Acr. 671 joined her arm and the statue of Nike Acr. 691 acquired another part of her garment.

On Thursday 27 September 2012, World Tourism Day, the Acropolis Museum will host a special concert performed by the Orchestra of Colors, organized by the Hellenic Ministry of Tourism.

On Saturday and Sunday 29 & 30 September 2012, European Cultural Heritage Days, admission to the exhibition areas of the Acropolis Museum will be free for all visitors between 5 pm and 8 pm.

On Friday 14 September 2012, the Acropolis Museum was awarded by the International Institute for Conservation (IIC) in Vienna, with the Keck Award 2012. The award concerns the conservation and restoration of the Caryatids, the Kore from the south porch of the Erechtheion temple, with the use of laser technology.

Commencing Tuesday 28 August 2012, the Acropolis Museum presents the historic ‘Bréal Cup’ awarded to Spyros Louis, the winner of the marathon race at the inaugural Modern Olympic Games, held in Athens in 1896.

The Silver Cup, trophy donated by the famous philhellene and linguist Michel Bréal, was acquired in an auction held at Christie’s on 18 April 2012 by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

The Cup will be displayed in the Acropolis Museum foyer for one year, until August 2013, with free entry during Museum opening hours.
