The Centaur was a mythical creature with the upper body and head of a human and the lower body of a horse. The first Centaur was the child of Ixion, king of Thessaly, and Nephele. From his union with the Magnesian mares, the race of the Centaurs was created. Centaurs, prone to wine and lust, were for ancient Greeks symbols of violence and brutality. There were, however, Centaurs like Chiron, who were wise, fair and gentle.
