Architectural order that first appeared in the 8th cent. BC in the Doric centres of the Peloponnese. It is characterised by simplicity, austerity and heavy analogies. The columns have no base, their flutes end in shard ridges and they bear a simple capital. The entablature consists of three parts, the architrave, a band with triglyphs and metopes and the cornice.
