Primordial deity, the Mother-Earth. According to Hesiod, Gaia along with Chaos and Eros form the primary triad of everything. From her union with Ouranos she initially had the Titans, the Cyclops and the Hecatonheires (Hundred-handed Ones), and later the Furies (Erinyes), the Giants and the Melies, nymphs of covert trees and prairies. Ancient Greeks attributed to Gaia oracular skills and thus oracles in their primary form were dedicated to her. Her symbols were the snake, the cornucopia, flowers and fruits.
