Altar to the east of the "Old Temple" of Athena Polias (replaced later by the Erechtheion) where the grand sacrifice of the Panathenaic festival took place. It was in the form of a stepped rectangular construction, the base of which was decorated with a marble relief frieze from the Classical period onwards.
