Rectangular stele with a bust usually of god Hermes on its top. In the middle of the stele, at the appropriate height, male genitalia were made in relief whereas on the sides, instead of arms, two projections were used for hanging wreaths. People in antiquity considered herms to be sacred, believed that they had a protective and apotropaic nature and placed them on road sides, crossroads and the entrances to public and private spaces.
