European travellers who visited Greece and Asia Minor in 1667. G. Wheler published in 1682 a six-volume work that contained information and plans of the ancient remnants that he encountered during his journey with J. Spon (A Journey into Greece… In Company of Dr Spon of Lyons). Additional information about modern cities, customs, vegitation, trade and maps was included. The books by Wheler remained works of reference concerning antiquities in Athens until the later publications by Stuart and Revett.
