According to legend Paris, a prince of Troy, had to choose who was fairest between the goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite and award her with a golden apple. He chose the latter and she offered him as a present Beautiful Helen, the wife of Menelaos, king of Sparta. This led to the Trojan War, the most notorious war in Greek mythology.
