Artists from the Shanghai Museum

Τhe Museum is pleased to host a presentation of the traditional Chinese arts, as part of the Acropolis Museum’s cooperation with the Shanghai Museum and the exhibition program "Treasures from the Shanghai Museum".

Two artists from the Shanghai Museum, the established Calligrapher and Exhibition Designer and Associate Curator, Mr. Yuan Qiming and the accomplished Painter and Assistant Curator of Painting and Calligraphy  Dr. Yan Xiaojun will work before visitors, as if they are in their own private studios.

Over the four days at the Acropolis Museum, Mr. Yuan will present major script types of Chinese calligraphy. Chinese written characters are pictographic symbols of spoken words. Calligraphy is the art of writing characters in an expressive manner employing the use of the brush. Dr. Yan will improvise in his painting with free hand skill and ink-wash just as the literati painters did, with various subjects such as colored landscape and flowers. Chinese painting is an art, which has a deep-rooted tradition and a unique style, employing a ‘dots and lines’ structure and the writing brush, ink stick, silk and Xuan paper as the main tools.

The two artists will work daily at the Museum ground floor from Thursday 22 March through to and including Sunday 25 March between 10.00 to 12.00 and 13.00 to 15.00.
