The Kore, one of the first Korai statues to be dedicated on the Acropolis, was found east of the Erechtheion in 1887.
She is dressed in a chiton which falls in thin, almost parallel, folds. Over the chiton she wears a short himation which passes obliquely under her left arm while secured on the right with small relief buttons. She bends her left hand over her chest holding an apple or a pomegranate, her offering to the goddess, while extending her right arm downwards, close to her body and curls her fingers into a fist. Although she brings to mind similar Archaic statues produced on the island of Samos, she is considered to be the work of a Naxian workshop because of the material used for her creation.
