The Kore was discovered in 1886 in the so-called "Korai Pit", northwest of the Erechtheion. A large part of her arms as well as the feet which were carved from a separate piece of marble and fitted to the rest of the body with metal joints, has been lost.
The Kore is clad in a long chiton, tightened around her waist with a thin belt. Over the chiton she wears a himation which is secured over her arms with relief buttons, covers her shoulders and falls symmetrically down her back. With her right hand she lifts her richly decorated garment to facilitate her step while with her left hand she would have held an object, perhaps her offering to the goddess.
Her curly hair is gathered with a band in a low ponytail and fall down her back in soft waves while three curls frame each side of her face and spill to the front. The elaborate hairstyle is completed with a diadem decorated with relief beads and additional metal jewelry, perhaps flower buds once secured in the small holes drilled on the diadem. Her earrings were also made of metal and added to the holes on her earlobes. This Kore’s facial features, which were originally highlighted with colour, are very similar with the features of the “Peplos Kore” (Ακρ. 679).
