Archaic Acropolis Gallery
Located probably in 1886 near the north walls of the Acropolis. The right arm, the genitals and the quiver of his bow were fitted, sculpted from separate pieces of marble. On the statue’s back side, low on his hips there are four small holes of uncertain use.
The archer turns to the viewer’s left holding the bow with his left hand and extending the string fitted with the arrow with his right. He is dressed in a short chiton and a cuirass with relief edges. The cuirass is form-fitting revealing the anatomical details of his chest and abdomen and was originally painted yellow or gold plated. From the chiton only some engraved details of horizontal rows of leaves are preserved on the right shoulder and thigh, as well as traces of red and light blue paint. It has been suggested that this archer forms part of a monument commemorating a victory.
